UNITAT DE RECERCA EN MOLÈCULES BIOACTIVES
El nostre grup té un caràcter multidisciplinari i el seu objectiu és dur a terme projectes d’investigació en la interfície entre la química i la biologia. Específicament, estem involucrats en estudis sobre compostos orgànics biològicament actius amb l’objectiu d’identificar noves molècules d’interès biomèdic i agroquímic.
En el primer cas, els nostres interessos se centren en la química i la biologia dels lípids. Estem particularment interessats en el desenvolupament de sondes químiques per a estudis relacionats amb el metabolisme i les funcions dels esfingolípids i en el descobriment de xaperones farmacològiques com alternatives prometedores per a algunes esfingolipidosis. També estem interessats en el desenvolupament de mètodes de cribratge d’alt rendiment per al descobriment de noves entitats químiques o la reutilització de fàrmacs existents com moduladors del metabolisme dels esfingolípids amb finalitats terapèutiques.
En el camp de l’agroquímica, estem interessats en el desenvolupament de nous mètodes alternatius i no contaminants de control de plagues. Dins d’aquesta línia, els nostres interessos es dirigeixen a la identificació de noves feromones d’insectes plaga i en el desenvolupament d’inhibidors d’enzims implicats en la degradació de les feromones.
La nostra Unitat té àmplia experiència en química biològica, així com un elevat coneixement per abordar el desenvolupament de metodologia de síntesi de molècules, així com estudis sobre el metabolisme lipídic, enzimologia, biologia cel·lular i biologia molecular. Recentment, el grup ha integrat noves tècniques d’anàlisi lliures de marcatges que permeten l’anàlisi directa de biomolècules, així com de la distribució de fàrmacs i metabòlits en els teixits. Les investigacions especialitzades es duen a terme en el marc de col·laboracions amb grups d’investigació amb les instal·lacions i experiència requerides. La participació en projectes de recerca multidisciplinaris en col·laboració amb institucions acadèmiques i públiques, així com amb socis industrials, és un objectiu essencial del grup. Els esfingolípids en biomedicina
Els esfingolípids (SL) regulen les vies de transducció de senyals involucrades en diversos processos biològics. La desregulació del metabolisme dels SL condueix a l’inici i progressió de malalties, des de síndromes minoritaris a trastorns d’alt impacte socioeconòmic. Diversos enzims del metabolisme dels SL han estat validats com a dianes terapèutiques i, per tant, el descobriment de compostos capaços de modular aquestes activitats enzimàtiques és de rellevància farmacològica. Aquests compostos poden sorgir a partir del cribratge de quimioteques, que requereix la disponibilitat de mètodes de d’alt rendiment (HTS), actualment molt escassos. D’altra banda, conèixer els mecanismes moleculars implicats en les funcions dels SL pot conduir a la identificació de noves dianes terapèutiques. Aquesta línia abasta la síntesi química de molècules de petit pes molecular i l’estudi de les seves activitats en diferents contextos biològics. Veure més enllaç a pag externa del grup.
Ecologia química
Aquesta línia aborda diferents aspectes relacionats amb noves feromones d’insectes plaga, des de la seva caracterització estructural i la síntesi de feromones i anàlegs i la seva activitat en el laboratori mitjançant tècniques d’electrofisiologia i bioassaigs de comportament a proves de camp. També estem compromesos amb el desenvolupament de noves alternatives i no contaminants per al control de plagues agroforestals basades en la inhibició dels enzims responsables de la degradació de les molècules de feromones en les antenes dels insectes. Òmica & Imatge: desenvolupament i aplicació d’eines i mètodes analítics
Aquesta línia té com a objectiu el desenvolupament d’eines químiques i mètodologies per determinar les composicions de metabòlits (metabolòmica), lípids (lipidómica) i proteïnes (proteòmica) i els canvis en els seus perfils provocats per estímuls i condicions variades. En els nostres estudis s’utilitzen tècniques d’espectrometria de masses acoblades a sistemes cromatogràfics(GC-MS i LC-MS), així com la imatge per espectrometria de masses MALDI. En col·laboració amb el Prof. Romà Tauler (IDAEA-CSIC), aquest línia també inclou l’aplicació de mètodes quimiomètrics i multivariants moderns i potents d’anàlisi de dades.
Les nostres infraestructures i experiència també s’ofereixen a grups externs d’institucions privades i públiques.
