The predoctoral researcher Wei Wen Chen, from the Synthetic Methodology and New Building Blocks group, has received the Research Award for PhD students, awarded by the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) and the pharmaceutical company Lilly.
His work has been recognised for seeking the development of tools to transform chemical bonds and make them more sustainable, an essential aspect in the design of new drugs. Specifically, Wei Wen Chen seeks to harness the synthetic richness of hypervalent halogen species with organoboron and silicon species to develop novel docking strategies and novel molecular architectures.
The Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry and the pharmaceutical Lilly also awarded Roberto del Río, from the Autonomous University of Madrid, and José Manuel González, from the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials.
